Love Wins! Vintage Images of Gay Marriage

We have finally won the right to marry! Go out and celebrate our historic victory, but remember the struggle of those that fought the fight before us.

These vintage wedding photos represent just a small fragment of our LGBT history; unfortunately so much of it has purposely been destroyed. A few of the more recent photos from the 1950 and 60's are documented LGBT marriages, the rest are photos that I feel represent gay marriage. Since some of the men and women in these photos are unknown, it isn't possible to tell for sure if they were gay couples getting married or just "good friends" joking around.

Some Gay and Lesbian couples chose to perform private and unsanctioned weddings even though gay culture didn't embrace marriage at that time; photos of these events are extremely rare. Most photographs belonging to LGBT couples were eventually destroyed by horrified family members. For every photo that I may have mistakenly identified as gay, thousands more were burned or torn into pieces to keep a family secret.
