These vintage photos represent just a small fragment of our LGBT history; unfortunately so much of
it has purposely been destroyed. Since the men in these photos
are unknown, it's pretty much impossible to tell if they were a gay
couple or just "good friends." Most photographs of gay couples were eventually
destroyed by horrified family members. For every photo that I may
have mistakenly identified as gay, thousands more were burned or torn into pieces to keep a family secret.

Happy Valentine's Day from Homo History! Even though these vintage valentines used the term "gay" to mean happy, I love how today's definition of "gay" completely alters their interpretation . That said, there's so explaining away the romance between the Tin Man and the Scarecrow!

If you think it's hard to find the partner of your dreams, just imagine how hard it was just a few generations ago! Gays and Lesbians were forced to live very closeted lives in order to avoid persecution, arrest and the rejection of their families. Not that everything is perfect these days, but we sure have come along way! Happy Valentine's Day, from Homo History!
